As we count down the days until we enter the New Year, it is important to take time and reflect on how 2023 and how we can improve ourselves in 2024.
Here are a few recommended healthy habits to incorporate into your lifestyle in the new year.
Stay active
It has been seen numerous times how living a sedentary lifestyle has been detrimental to one’s health, so it is important that you find a way to be active.
· You can plan brief moments throughout the day to stretch and walk around.
· If the opportunity presents itself try to take the stairs instead of the elevator.
· Take quick walks during your lunch break or try to participate in outdoor or indoor sports like cycling or running on a treadmill.
2. Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated has many benefits.
· Drinking a healthy amount of water can help eliminate dry mouth, muscle cramps, craving for sweets, and bad breath.
· Eat hydrating fruits such as watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, and pineapples.
· Try to incorporate drinking water throughout the day by using a reusable bottle that makes it easier to stay hydrated throughout the day.
3. Develop A Consistent Sleep Schedule
Having a consistent sleep schedule has been proven to help stress, improved alertness, health, and improved heart health.
· Develop calming pre-sleep rituals before going to bed such as reading, meditating, or taking a warm bath.
· Steer clear of stimulating activities such as heavy meals. Alcohol and caffeine right before bed.
· Limit your time spent in front of TV’s, phones, and computers at least an hour before bed. The Blue light from the electronic may disrupt the body’s ability to produce melatonin which helps you go to sleep.
The new year is a very exciting time. You can look back on the past and reminisce and look to the future with excitement. These three small tips will help you grow and become a better person in the year 2024.
